Star Wars universe expansion

So I kind of figured it was all going to blow up eventually back when Disney bought the Star Wars franchise in 2012, but it appears it has finally happened. Within the past week or so, the following new original series have been announced:

- Obi-Wan Kenobi
- Andor
- Ahsoka
- The Rangers of the New Republic
- Bad Batch
- A Droid Story
- Visions
- Lando
- The Acolyte

Along with some new movies. I'm sure there's even more on the way. Disney+ is almost 100 million subscribers now thanks to the Mandalorian, so it makes sense. I like how several of these will be in the same timeline as Mando too. I'm sure there are even more in the works, but I sure hope they have done all of their homework on Star Wars canon/lore over the past 8 years! These series will no doubt be a huge addition to the universe.

What does everyone think? I'm sure everyone here is pretty excited! xD

Check this out for a quick synopsis of each if you'd like, courtesy of space.com:
"Obi-Wan Kenobi" – Set 10 years after "Revenge of the Sith" so, right in-between the prequels and the original trilogy. It starts principal photography in Boston and London in January of 2021 and stars Ewan McGregor in the title role and Hayden Christensen will return as Darth Vader.

"Andor" –Starring Diego Luna as Cassian Andor and Alan Tudyk as K-2SO in the prequel series to "Rogue One" that is already filming in London.

"Ahsoka" and "The Rangers of the New Republic" – They will both form part of "The Mandalorian" timeline. The former will be a limited series starring Rosario Dawson and not much is known about the latter, except that it will probably follow an episodic format. Both will be managed by Dave Filoni and John Favreau.

"Bad Batch" – An animated series set to air in 2021. They first appeared in an episode of "The Clone Wars" called "The Bad Batch" (S07, E01) that followed a clone commando squad during the Clone Wars called Clone Force 99 that consisted of four clone troopers designed with unique "mutations" that make them exceptional soldiers and extremely skilled in their field.

"A Droid Story" – Not much was said about this, except that Lucasfilm's animation department will partner with their VFX team, Industrial Light and Magic to create a new show that will somehow incorporate C-3PO and R2-D2.

"Visions" – Again, very little was said about this except that it will be a collection of 10 short films celebrating the "Star Wars" Universe.

"Lando" – Following the popular character first seen in "The Empire Strikes Back" and played by Billy Dee Williams and then later portrayed by Donald Glover in "Solo." Not much was said about this, except that it will be an "event series," which means it will probably be a limited series.

"The Acolyte" – A mystery-thriller live-action series from "Russian Doll" creator Leslye Headland that will focus on the emergence of dark side powers in the final days of the High Republic Era.

Plus there will be a new, as-yet unnamed Taika Waititi "Star Wars" movie. Not much is known about this, but during the event, Kathleen Kennedy called his approach to "Star Wars," "fresh, unexpected and unique" so it could be interesting, whatever it is.

But the best news from the event is that the amazing Patty Jenkins will direct a feature length movie entitled "Rogue Squadron." Jenkins posted an incredible tweet yesterday explaining how her father was a distinguished USAF F4 pilot who received the silver star during the Vietnam war and that she'd always dreamed of directing the best fighter pilot movie she possibly could to honor his memory. And now she has that chance, as she puts on an X-Wing pilot's helmet…and we reach for the nearest box of tissues to wipe the tears from our eyes.

It's the next "Star Wars" movie in the schedule and it's going to be a long wait, as it's slated for a 2023 release, but it'll be worth it.

But there's one more thing. Noah Hawley, director of the underrated "Lucy in the Sky," recently said that his "Star Trek" movie no longer appears "to be in my immediate future" as Paramount wants to take the franchise in a different direction. In March 2019, it was reported that he had pitched a miniseries set within the Alien universe to FX and now it appears that is going to happen.

I am stoked for all of the live action series! I think Ahsoka and Obi-Wan will be amazing, plus Boba Fett will be entertaining I am sure.

Anyone else watch the first episode of Book of Boba Fett? It was a little slow but I didn't expect anything too crazy for a pilot episode. However, we got to see a little bit of details surrounding Boba surviving the Sarlacc pit which was cool. Him kicking ass at the end of the episode with Fennec was pretty cool too!

I really enjoyed the first episode of Boba Fett! Very excited for episode 2 tonight. I'm interested to see if they have anything crazy up their sleeves with this show. Compared to the Mandalorian having baby Yoda, Ahsoka, and Luke Skywalker! I feel like they'll have to bust out the big guns if they want to keep people interested. Don't get me wrong I think Boba is a bad ass, but if he can survive the Sarlacc pit then there could be a chance of Mace Windu surviving all these years. I'd love to see that showdown. Even with the de-aging technology they have they could have a Han Solo cameo, or even use the dude who played the part in the Solo movie ( which I personally thought was great!) to keep the hype. Lots of directions they could go and I'm excited to see what's to come!!
There's nothing to see here, And that nothing looks back at us.

What did everyone think of the whole season in general, now that it has concluded? I am interested to hear some opinions.

Personally, I am not as pleased as I was while watching Mando seasons 1 & 2, but overall it was still very enjoyable. Especially all of the appearances towards the end of the season: Luke, Ahsoka, R2-D2, of course Din and Grogu, and Peli Motto to name a few.

I wasn't a huge fan of Boba's "bike gang," I thought their vehicles were way too slow for the "intense chase scenes." Boba wasn't a very strong character either, and in the second half of the season didn't really seem to be the star of his own show anymore. It kind of marred some of the immersion for me. I just don't know what motivation there is for him.

One interesting perspective is to realize he is not the "hero," but rather still the villain that we all know used to do jobs for the Empire. He has gotten a lot of people killed already.

There is much more I could talk about, but I am curious to see others' opinions first.

I wasn't a huge fan of this season. Boba Fett went from being the most feared and ruthless bounty hunter in the galaxy to a petty crime lord that has an emo biker "gang" working for him. I am not even going to dive into those bikers, we are all thinking the same thing. The best parts of this show were;

- Black Krrsantan
- Luke and Ahsoka scene
- Seeing Cad Bane

I am very excited for the Obi-Wan show, the Ahsoka series, and of course Mandalorian Season 3.

I agree those were the best moments, and for me the Mandalorian appearances as well. I have a feeling we'll be seeing Black Krrsantan around again. Excited to see what they do with Ahsoka's show. And as far as Cad Bane, it was cool to see him (and I know I lot of people were eagerly anticipating it), but I feel like he went down a little too easily for how villainous he really is.

I am glad to know I'm not the only one whose immersion was broken a bit by the gang.

Did you see the new Andor trailer that dropped?!

I don't think Cad is dead, his life support alarm went off and in the Clone Wars show that would indicate his droid will come scoop him up and get him back to the ship.
