So with the rise of virtual currency (Bitcoin) over the past few years, and it's merry band of miners. Graphics card prices have shot through the roof and is making it difficult for users to upgrade their rigs to stay up to date with modern games. Prices for cards that were at launch $300 are now around $500, which to any reasonable gamer or enthusiast is just absurd and unacceptable. What are your thoughts and opinions on the rise of digital currency and the problem of hardware inflation?

Looks like it's all coming back down in prices somewhat. Perhaps a bubble effect? This is why buying previous-gen stuff is awesome lol.

I think it could definitely see a pause in the rise of graphic details.

It could also help promote cloud gaming.

Good point! When the Great Recession happened about ten years ago Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo had to delay working on the next-gen consoles and instead stretch more life outta the current-gen. Like the 360 for example...that thing was in service for a loooong time! Always amazed me how well developers continued to optimize the same hardware so well.

Bumping an old topic, but damn, here we are nearly 4 years later with GPU prices still ridiculous, but finally starting to calm down.

Yea, I am still rocking my GTX 1070. I have been thinking about upgrading since I have all but given up hope on ever finding an Xbox Series X.

Well, you've finally found a Series X! What do you think now that you've had it for a bit? I'm assuming it will hold you over with the GTX 1070 for quite a while, as the Series X will whet your 4K appetite.

I'm still being patient with GPU prices, but it's so nice to see them finally dropping at least close to MSRP. I'm in no hurry as my current GPU is doing just fine, but once they do get back to MSRP and the 4000 series comes out, I'll look at getting a 4060 Ti or something of the sort. I would like to prepare for 4K PC gaming, as this 2060 Super I have now works very hard on ultra graphics at 1080p 60fps on some games.
